This is a quilt I made in 2008 for a fundraiser for a retirement home in NJ call Riverview Estates. It was machine quilted by Delia Dungan of Lumberton, NJ. It was the “rickrack road” quilt pattern from a shop in Haddonfield, NJ called The Little Shop. It was in a magazine that showcased several shops once a year. BH&G’s Quilt Sampler Fall/Winter 2007. It was so easy to make I did the top in 3 days at my Jersey guild getaway.
1. How long have you been quilting?
since 1997
2. How did you get started?
for our 2nd wedding anniversary (cotton) we bought a quilt....I thought, hhmmmm, I’d like to try that.
3. When buying fabric, do you buy what you need for a current project or do you buy it just because you like it, or it would go with your other stash?
I buy fabric for the current project...just like the picture in the quilt magazine....I once went to three different fabric stores just to find the EXACT same size polka dots shown in the picture!
4. Do you stick with certain colours? Fabric lines (Moda, Hoffman, batiks)?
I love civil war repros, but now I’m really loving batiks!
5. When making a quilt, do you stick to patterns from magazines, pre-written patterns that you purchased, quilt kits, or do you design your own?
Design my own quilts? LOL! I have no imagination, no creativity. Remember me? I shopped around just to get the exact same size polka dots shown in the picture!
6. Do you finish a project before starting another? Or do you have multiple projects going on at once?
Why do you think they invented the phrase “UFO”? My 2011 new year’s resolution was to designate this as the “year of finishing.” I’ve finished 5.
7. UFOs? Got 'em? How many?
I still have 4 UFOs in various stages. 2 kits and fabric for 3 un-started quilt tops.
8. When sewing/quilting, do you have music playing, the t.v. on, or just love listening to the sound of the machine purring?
Embarrassed to admit it, I listen to mindless tv.
9. What's your quilting style? Traditional? Modern? Arty?
Definitely traditional...modern and artsy would be to creative for my narrow vision. Although I love looking at modern and artsy.
10. If you had an unlimited supply of money, what item(s)/machine(s) would you buy for yourself (quilting related of course)?
Sounds crazy, but I would put a window in my basement sewing room!
