Wednesday Daytime Meeting (1-3 PM) - Jan 19 - Borders

Borders can simply make a patchwork larger or can frame it. Borders can stop the eyes from wandering or give them a rest. Borders can be very simple or as complicated as you wish. What is your favorite border? Do you applique, piece, or simply say “Done”? Show us by bringing a quilt you have done or a picture (and maybe instructions) of a border you would like to try. Perhaps you have a quilt that you know needs a border, but you are stumped so it sits in the UFO or PIG pile. Bring it.

Meeting is in person (don't forget your mask!) at the STATE COLLEGE YMCA. 677 W Whitehall Rd, State College, PA 16801, NOTE CHANGE of address.  This will be our permanent space for 3rd Wed meeting.  Although the Shellers Bend condo community room was a wonderful space, we have outgrown it.

We are also entertaining ideas for Feb & Mar meetings.  Let Leslie know if you have anything you can present or are interested in learning about.

Tuesday Evening Meeting on Zoom - What's in Your Sewing Space? - Jan 11

Members show of favorite tools, sewing room setup, or something used in quilting that isn’t normally thought of as a quilting tool or supply. Please send Sue Younkin pictures of your set up or your tools that aren’t sold in sewing stores. Don’t wait to be asked for pictures; send them to Sue tonight with a brief description.

There will be time for Sew & Tell.  Take a picture and place it on your computer desktop so you will be
ready to share your project to its best advantage.

Weather cancellation

Our first Friday sewing opportunity has been snowed in.  We'll meet next week at the Evangelical Free Church on Blue Course Dr.

Community Service Project - T-Shirt Quilts for Big Brother/Big Sister

Rich Carroll of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisburg has reached out to the Guild looking for some assistance with a quilt project.  They have a large number of T-shirts for an event that was cancelled due to COVID that they would like to have sewn into quilts to distribute to their Littles or family members as the need arises.  Janice Kennedy is looking for any groups or individuals who would be interested in working with Rich on this.  If you are interested in participating, contact Janice for details.

Wednesday Daytime Meeting 1-3 PM

Both meetings fall in the same week again this month!  The Wednesday meeting is still an in-person meeting at the Clubhouse at 3296 Shellers Bend.  Again, use the map in the newsletter to help you find the location.  Google Maps will only take you as far as the entrance.  (It's a condo community, so one address plus the unit designation like in an apartment complex.)

Judy Ray’s presentation last month was so interesting, helpful, entertaining, and chock-full of important bits that we asked her to finish her session in December. Please bring anything you made from her first session for Show and Tell.

December 14th Meeting Reminder

This meeting will be by Zoom at 7 PM.  Watch your email for the links.

Brita Nelson Zoom presentation “Now you see it, now you don’t - The Magic of Disappearing Blocks"

From her website:
“Learn about the magic and beauty of disappearing blocks with this interactive online lecture, demo and trunk show. Using 3 cameras, one on me and the quilts, one pointing straight down at the cutting mat, and one close-up on the quilts, I will be able to show you how easy it is to turn simple blocks into beautiful complex patterns. Using the Zoom format you will be able to ask questions for me to answer during the presentation. I will also show you how different block designs can be enhanced by color choices or slight modifications to make even more interesting full quilts.”

There will be no regular business meeting or Show & Tell this month.
