Daytime meetings resume in September

Day Meetings resume in September with thanks to Lynn Springer and the use of her condo clubhouse. It’s 3296 Shellers Bend.  Cobble Creek Manor.  (Amazingly close to Scraps & Skeins.) These first demos are great for making quick gifts and Comfort Covers give-aways. 1:00-3:00

September 15—Missouri Star Quilt Company Quartered Squares Workshop (AKA Addicted to Stripes) led by BeckyT and others who have made this pattern. You’ll need 1 ¼ yd of an interesting stripe if you want to try this.  Bring a cutting board, long ruler, rotary cutter, and pins.  We’ll not be sewing. We’ll show variations of size and pattern.

August membership meeting

This Tuesday, August 10 is our last outdoor meeting at Orchard Park; social starts at 6:30. Look for our new banner.  The program will start at 7:00 to take advantage of the light.  Since we must be out of the pavilion by sunset (8:16) we will not have time for much of a business meeting or for Show and Tell.  (Covid can take responsibility for this.) Please read your August newsletter for all the information you need to be up to date on Guild happenings.  We know Show and Tell is important for inspiration, motivation, and admiration, so please take your recent lovelies to QBs on Tuesday.

The program will be on Color. Karen Powers and her team of color wizards have activities and ideas for you to enjoy and contemplate.  After all, what is a quilt without color?

Please wear a solid color shirt and bring a ziploc of small scraps that read as solids to play with.

Thunderstorms are once again expected for the afternoon.  Your Guild Board will monitor the forecasts/radar and post meeting cancellation on the webpage at 5:00.  Hopefully they will be early or much later.

Other things to bring with you: donations to Scraps a& Skeins, egg cartons for Jill W,  tiny bits of cotton and batting from your wastebasket for Centre Wildlife to use as bedding stuffing for injured animals, a chair if you are uncomfortable sitting at picnic tables, a drink if you want.

August and September Meetings require flexibility

For the next 2 meetings we won't have any time for Show and Tell.  Our August meeting is outdoors at Orchard Park and the days are getting shorter.  The September program is very long and South Hills needs us out of there by 8:30. So..... take your pretties to QBs so we can ohhh and ahhh.  We'll get back to our regular schedule in October. We know how important Show and Tell is for motivation and improving our skills.

New Post Office Box

We are sleeker, slimmer, and a lot less expensive.  Direct all mail to PO Box 95, Boalsburg, PA 16827.  The post master will forward our mail from the old box to the new one for a year in case you forget.

Color Discovery for August 10 meeting

Please bring a pile of discarded scraps for our color discovery discussion.

Solids and reads as solid would be best, but small prints are also useful.

Size honestly doesn’t matter.

Nothing really large, let’s say roughly from 2” x 2” to 6” x 4”.

Quantity: sandwich size to quart size zip lock. But if you have more, that would be great to share with others.

No need to sort. . . Part of the fun will be digging through what people bring.
