October Meetings

October 12 Evening Meeting – South Hills School (480 Waupelani Drive, State College Room, 804)

6:30-7:00-Social time

7:00-Business meeting, program and show & tell

Color! This program (postponed in August due to threatening weather) will inspire you and provide ideas for selecting fabrics when you begin your next quilting adventure.  Our own Becky Trunzo will present her ideas about color, and Karen Powers and Fran Hrenko will lead us through several color exploration exercises.

Bring a bag of scraps that you are happy to give away and a pair of fabric scissors.  Small scraps (up to 6” x 6”) and any fabric type including solids, prints that read as solids, and small- and large-scale prints are suggested.  Also, if you’re interested, using your smartphone, practice before the meeting converting a photo you have taken to grayscale (or black & white). Show and Tell – It’s been a while so bring those pretties.

Wearing masks is required.

Day Meetings have resumed with thanks to Lynn Springer and the use of her condo clubhouse. It’s 3296 Shellers Bend. Look for signs to the Club House and our Guild banner.  Please park on the sidewalk side, wear your masks. and attend to social distancing. 1:00-3:00.

October 20--MSQC Charms on Point Workshop Led by Fran H. and others who have made this pattern. This is a fun way to use your scraps!

Option one: Come with your scrap squares sewn together: one side is twice the adjacent side (6 squares by 12 squares, or 4 squares x 8 squares, or 5 squares x 10 squares, etc.) Squares can be any size (3 inches square, 5 inches, 8 inches,). We will do the magic cut at the meeting.

Option two: make 2 fabric pieces that are square: ( 4squares by 4 squares. 6 squares by 6 squares- any size block ie: 3 inch, 5 inch, 6 inches- your choice ). We will do the magic cut at the meeting.

Option three: bring a bunch of squares, any size, painter’s tape.  We’ll play with arrangements. (You won’t need the mat and cutter for this option, and we won’t cut but we’ll get you all set up.)

Bring mat and rotary cutter. We will refer to the Missouri star tutorial (May 4, 2018). Bring samples if you have made this pattern. Share your tips.

This will be another demonstration without sewing, but we’ll get you started on a very fast and addicting lap quilt that’s great for gifts and charity giving. We’ll show variations of size and placement.
