This year’s challenge is all about sparking creativity, trying new designs, and strengthening the friendships in our guild. Each participant will receive a quilt block chosen by another member. Your mission is to transform that single motif into a finished quilted project, to be revealed at next year’s picnic!
Create! Your challenge is to make a quilted project with the block you drew, to be revealed at next year’s picnic. Knowing who submitted the block will be a fun aspect of revealing the finished projects. Have fun, stretch your skills, and support one another! Ask the member who submitted your block why they chose it, if it is their favorite, if they have made anything using it, or if they have any tips in working with it.
Requirements
• Block Usage: Minimum: The assigned block should be the focal point of the project. True spirit of thechallenge: Aim for 100% usage of the block.• Final Product: Anything quilted is welcome! Quilts, wall hangings, table runners, pillows, totes, coats, placemats, etc. It should be layered, quilted, and bound/finished. (Unquilted tops are also fine for quilts.)• Enhancements: Sashing, borders, setting triangles, etc. are all great!• Variation: Creative interpretations are encouraged! For example, a classic Log Cabin could become aWonky Log Cabin.
This challenge isn’t a strict assignment—it’s the beginning of an adventure. The challenge gives you a starting point and a direction and at the end we want you to share with the guild where the adventure took you. Make something beautiful. Use the block in an unexpected or new way. Reinterpret the block. The point is to be creative and have fun! Don’t worry about breaking the rules - the Quilt Police aren’t going to show up at the Picnic 🙂
