Pin Cushion Pattern
Materials
1 piece of fabric approx 14 in by 4 in
2 pieces of fabric 5 in by 5 in
1 piece of wool, felt, or fabric backed by a fusible
5 in by 5 in for applique (Some wool will be available at the meeting.)
Ground walnut shells can be used for the “stuffing.” Some will be available at the meeting .
The finished pin cushion is 3in by 2 in by 3 in
The Accuquilt die will be used to cut one long rectangle for the sides, two squares for the top and bottom. The wool or felt will be cut into a spool of thread and a sewing machine for applique.
Sewing instructions: Applique the sewing machine and spool to the top and bottom. Buttons or other embellishments can be added. Right sides together, sew the short ends of the long rectangle together, ¼ in seam. There are notches in the long rectangle. The sides of the squares match the notches with a ¼ in allowance for the seam. Right sides together, sew the top to the rectangle. Sew the bottom to the rectangle. The seam should be centered on one of the sides of the pincushion top/bottom so that the corners will line up. Leave a one inch opening along one of the seams to fill the pincushion. Turn the pincushion right sides out. Fill. Sew the seam closed with a ladder stitch.
