Toys for Tots
Thank you to each and every member who donated batting, material and time to make doll and infant quilts for Toys For Tots. The workshop was a success with 38 items made or donated that day. We have received approximately 100 quilts to date and will update the final count for the membership in the next newsletter. Please continue to keep this group project going by thinking of Toys for Tots throughout the year.

December Joint Meeting
December 8 (Sunday) – (NOTE CHANGE FROM PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED DATE and TIME) Christmas Joint meeting from 3:00 to 5:00pm at the University Club, 331 W College Ave, State College, PA 16801 · (814) 237-6576. Parking is located in the rear of the building and there is an entrance in the rear of the building. Carpooling was suggested. The board agreed to have it as a potluck. Paper supplies will be provided by the guild. Kitchen facilities are available.
Claire Amick will chair the ornament exchange. The ornament must be handmade but not necessarily by you.
Cindy Rutschky will supply the silent auction bid sheets. The money raised from this occasional auction will support the general fund. Party supplies, insurance, Membership Book printing, post office box rental, and rental fees for the Middle School Library are some of the bills paid for from this fund. We raise money at this auction so we don’t have to raise dues.
Sew, what to bring? Your check book or cash. What to donate to the silent auction? Serviceable but used quilting gadgets or tools that you don’t need; stash fabric; books and magazines that have served you well but…; beautiful objects from other hobbies/passions/talents (quilt blocks painted on Christmas Tree balls or gourds or a mirror or a barn quilt. What part of quilting do you enjoy THE MOST? If it’s binding, perhaps you could donate 300 inches of binding service. If it’s FMQ, perhaps you could donate a 1 hr fmq lesson. Sew many options; be creative as you consider what your Guild means to you.
Unless you pick up your unsold donations immediately after the party, they will make their way to Scraps and Skeins.

November Meetings
The day has been moved to Nov. 13 to accommodate the Transfer Station's schedule. We'll meet as usual from noon to 1:00 for social time and a brief business meeting and then enjoy the members' trunk show led by Barb First and Susan DeMetrick.
Evening Meeting: Joyce Robinson, Assistant Director, Palmer Museum of Art will be joined by Julia Kasdorf, a poet and professor in English, to highlight an upcoming exhibition, Field Language: The Painting and Poetry of Warren and Jane Rohrer, that includes modern abstraction and Amish quilts.
Warren and Jane Rohrer were raised in the Lancaster area as Mennonites and eventually went out into the larger world to pursue their art. The exhibition will have two examples of quilts that proved inspirational for both Rohrers.
Join us at the Mt Nittany Middle School Library at 7:00 for our brief meeting and this extraordinary lecture on November 12.

Request for help
My name is Alex
Davenport. Currently I am pursuing my PhD in communication studies at Southern
Illinois University, Carbondale. Previously I attended James Madison University
in Harrisonburg Virginia for both my BA & MA During that time (2007-2015) I
was privileged to work with Mountain Justice on MTR related issues.
For my dissertation
work, I hope to make a quilt memorializing Judy Bonds out of squares donated by
members of the community. After I have made the quilt I plan to travel it along
one of the routes of the Mountaintop Removal Roadshow; educating the audience
about MTRJ Judy Bonds and other figures! and current organizing occurring in
Appalachia. After I have traveled with the quilt and defended my dissertation I
will donate the quilt to Coal River Mountain Watch.
If you are interested!
please send a quilt square of any size to me (a good size recommendation, if
you need one! is 10 "x 10"). I want everyone who wishes to be able to
participate, so these squares can run the gamut So far I have talked to people
about traditional quilt squares, fabric with appliqués, t-shirts,
preexisting/altered materials, squares with messages in fabric paint/marker and
more. Truly whichever medium you feel comfortable in, I would be happy to work
with.
You can also send a
letter (that you can choose to sign but do not need to) reflecting on Judy, or
anything else you think fits with the project. Even if you do not send a letter
you may choose to have your name associated with your quilt square or to remain
anonymous! just let me know which you prefer. After receiving your square I
will mail you papers confirming your participation in the project that you can
keep if you wish.
My mailing address is
410 N Springer St, #2 Carbondale IL 62901 . I want to ensure that everyone who
wants to contribute is able to and am more than happy to provide pre-paid
postage. Please contact me if you would be interested in that option.
If you wish to
participate please send your squares no later than December 18. If you want to
donate but need a little more time, please let me know- making sure everyone
who wants to participate can is very important to me.
If you have any
questions, concerns, feedback) or would like to coordinate further on the
project I can be contacted at davenpak@siu.edu
or 571.243.9108.
My advisor, Dr.
Jonathan Gray, may also be contacted at jmgray@siu.edu or 618.453.7570.

Recycling fabric
H&M website has information on a garment collection
program. The company will take any textiles from
old sheets, worn-out T-shirts to odd socks.
For one bag of garments, the person will receive a coupon for 10% off
the next purchase. The collection box is
located next to the cash registers. The
store is located on Fraser Street right across from the Fraser Street parking
garage.
If Scraps and Skeins can't use it, try H&M.
