Wednesday Daytime Meeting - Nov 15, 1 PM - Potholder Blocks for Comfort Covers

     We will be meeting in person on November 15 at the Pine Hall Lutheran Church on W College Ave to work on potholder blocks for Comfort Covers quilts.  Everyone is invited to create a block that is 10 inches finished. (If your block is less, add a little border to bring it up to size)…..we can demonstrate, share materials, or gather finished blocks.  We will put these together for Comfort Covers or Toys for Tots on another day.

    This will be our last daytime meeting until the lunch meeting in January.  Stay tuned for details!

Tuesday Evening Meeting - Nov 14 - ZOOM Presentation - The History of the Sewing Machine

    Starting with the November 14 meeting, we are in ZOOM season for the winter.  Members - check your newsletter for the link.  Sign on begins at 6:30 for a little social time, with the presentation beginning at 7PM.  This month will be The History of the Sewing Machine... A Tale of Intrigue and Espionage. Terry from Purple Moose Designs will fill us in on historic and humorous bits of the past that brought us our sewing machines as they are today.  Join us for some fun, no matter what the weather is or where you are at this time of year!

Comfort Covers Collection Report

    On a rainy Saturday a hardy core of volunteers gathered to size, label, sort and deliver the donations inside Centre County. WendyN, BeckyS, BeckyT, JillA, PeggyT, and Pat worked hard. Pat went home to get a second iron, and Lenore went home to make more labels. We were out of the building by 11:30

    Thank you to those who made donations since the last collection day in July. Without your ongoing support for this guild project, we would not be able to continue this mission. LenoreC is the coordinator for Comfort Covers. It would be impossible for her to make all these lovely covers.

    We are delivering this week 14 bed toppers, 17 lap blankets, 16 small lap, 31 walker/wheelchair bags, 21 fabric dignity protectors, 17 dress shirt dignity protectors, 28 covers for Toys for Tots, 5 hats, and 4 items to the House of Hope Mommy Shop. Our destinations include 7 senior care facilities, Out of the Cold (un-housed) , The Haven (teens), The Meadows (psych hospital), and Park Forest Nursery School.  That's over 150 people receiving something to bring them comfort, and maybe a little joy.

Wednesday Meeting - October 18th - Fabric Designers

    For the Wednesday afternoon presentation BarbZ and BeckyT would encourage any attendees to bring show and tell of any quilted items they have created from a particular designer or that involves a fabric collection from any era. 

    In the meantime, check your selvage information from your stash… we will have some questions for you!! Anyone have any poppies or striped clothing or dishes from the Marimekko design line?? If so, let Barb Zeger or Becky Trunzo know. Hope you come… it should be fun and helpful when you shop Scraps and Skeins or any quilt store.

    Meeting begins at 1 PM at Pine Hall Lutheran Church on W College Avenue.

Tuesday Evening Meeting - October 10 - Kate Mulberger Lecture on Civil War Quilts

    Join us starting at Blue Course Community Church for a lecture by guest speaker Kate Mulberger on Civil War Quilts.  She will be providing a history behind the "potholder" quilt technique which was very popular during that time period.  Social at 6:30, meeting at 7:30.  Bring your work if you participated in the workshop at QBs.

Comfort Covers Drop-Off Reminder

    Collection day is Saturday Oct 7 at Pine Hall Lutheran from 10-11. Come visit and see what the hubbub is all about. We need sizers, labelers, sorters, drivers, and a greeter. Directions and contact details are provided for the drivers. All sites are in Centre County, and most are on your regular "driving-around-town" routes.
