Toys for Tots update

Toys for Tots is very grateful for all the quilts we have made.  The totals are the following:

    The GRAND TOTAL is  111 quilts.  THANKS to all the quilters, knitters and crocheters who made the loving items which will wrap and keep kids warm this winter.

Six more quilts didn't make it into Jill's sleigh but will be added to a Toys for Tots drop site with CPQG lablels. for a grand total of 117 quilts for 2023. 

Tuesday Evening Meeting - December 12 - ZOOM - Japanese Fabrics

     For our December ZOOM meeting, we will be welcoming Dana Jones back to discuss quilting in Japan in "Indigo, Taupe & More:  Japanese Fabric from Vintage to Contemporary."  (She did a presentation last winter on the quilters of Caohagan Island in the Philipines.)  The link will be available at 6:30 for a little social time with the program beginning at 7 PM.  Join us for some passport-free travel!

Pasto Agricultural Museum 

What do wheat bran, hydrangea branches, oak galls, safflower petals, lotus pods, nutritional yeast, snails, coal tar, and mud have in common? They have all been used to make cloth colorful. Come examine these materials and learn how they have produced extraordinary colors throughout history and around the world.

Dr. Sarah Rich is Associate Professor of Art History and co-curator of the exhibition Sad Purple and Mauve: A History of Dye-Making, on view through January 15, 2024, in the Eberly Family Special Collections Library, 104 Paterno, University Park.

This event is free, as is parking at the museum.

The Pasto Agricultural Museum is located at 2710 West Pine Grove Road, Gate K, Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs, nine miles southwest of State College on Route 45.

3rd Wednesday Gathering change of program

 All the important information is the same (1:00-3:00 at Pine Hall Lutheran) but the subject will be working with charm (5") squares. Bring in 5” squares of any quantity. We will be making “kits” to be taken home and assembled at your leisure. Bring some pins, small pieces of paper, and a pencil to label rows/blocks.

Science Communication and Quilting

 Laura Guertin, distinguished professor of Earth sciences at Penn State Brandywine, gave the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences’ 2023 Lattman Visiting Scholar of Science and Society Lecture. See her quilts on Instagram @drlauraguertin or https://bit.ly/drgsciquilt.  She makes wall hangings to commemorate her oceanic expeditions and data collections.  She has temperature and cloud cover quilts.  She has messages in code, Her JR quilt is an I-Spy with pictures of the expedition ship printed by Spoonflower.com.
